Congrats to Lupita Nyong'o and 12 Years A Slave on their Oscar wins!
"When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid"

For her breakout performance in 12 Years a Slave, Lupita Nyong'o has won awards from the Screen Actors Guild, Independent Spirit Awards and the Critic Choice Awards. Last night she capped it off with winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. If you haven't seen the movie, I will tell you that I held it together until one of the last scenes with her and Chiwetell...then I lost it. The acting in that movie was phenomenal.
"It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is because of so much pain in someone else's"

"Everyone deserves not just to survive but to live. This is the most important legacy of Solomon Northup,"
Steve McQueen

12 Years a Slave made history as the first movie from a black director to win the Best Picture in the 86 years of the Oscars. People of African descent have contributed to the world since the beginning of time. It is always good to see any of those accomplishments celebrated in the world.
"This is for all the people who have endured slavery, and the 21 million people who still endure slavery today."
